DIGITAL PR FOR AI SEARCH CHAPTERS

Chapter 2: The Models Trust Third Parties More Than They Trust You

AI models give little weight to what a brand says about itself and a lot to what credible third parties say about it.

THE BOOK

Front cover of Digital PR for AI Search: How Earned Coverage Builds Brand Visibility in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI. The artwork shows an illustrated stack of newspapers, the top one headed "Featured In" with publication wordmarks, linked to three tiles labelled ChatGPT, Google AI and Gemini, above the labels Earn Coverage, Build Authority and Third Party Corroboration and the byline AI James Dooley, Peter Jones, Paul Truscott and Ben Nicholls.

What does this chapter argue?

The chapter compares this to a sensible buyer, who discounts the source with the most to gain. Earned coverage is harder to get. A brand's own website still sets out its canonical name, description and facts, but only independent sources show that the claim is true.

The gap shows in the answers, which move from "some sources describe" to "is a leading provider of" as independent voices repeat a claim. Models judge independence too: a network of near-identical sites reads as one voice, three different titles over eighteen months read as three, and earned coverage is the strongest form of independence available.
